Contour furrowing was carried out in the 1960s. Most of it was done in the timber reserves of the catchment to the gully. A tractor is used in the work. It was difficult to furrow because of fairly steep slopes and a dense tree cover. Also, the soil is quite shallow. Soil moisture increases near the furrow and grass cover increases. One major disadvantage is that it encourages B horizon sapping.
