4-6 Dolines near Homerton

Locality:

7221-640832. Six kilometres north-west of Homerton.

Access:

Overalls Roads off the Ettrick-Condah Road.

Geology/Geomorphology:

Numerous dolines have developed on Heytesbury (Glenelg) Group limestone in the area north-west of Homerton. These features are small, often circular, basins approximately 20 to 30 m in diameter and 3 to 5 m deep. They are often aligned and the individual depressions of each lineament are connected by shallow valleys.

Significance:

Regional. The doline field forms and unusual drainage pattern and there are outcrops of limestone in the walls of some of the larger dolines.

Management:

The dolines should not be used as rubbish dumps. Excessive grading and infilling of the dolines should be prohibited. It is noted that this landform feature is extremely developed in the Homerton area.
