Locality:

7122-245990. Four kilometres south of Dartmoor.

Access:

Blacknell's Road off the Nelson-Winnap Road.

Ownership:

Private/Public.

Geomorphology:

A broad swampy depression to the east of the Glenelg River is a two kilometre section of abandoned river channel. The former channel is now a swamp densely vegetated with Melaleuca sp. and Leptospermum sp. The eastern side of the feature is bordered by a large cliff which displays clear exposures of Whalers Bluff Formation Limestone.

Significance:

Regional. This is a relatively recent feature and is the largest abandoned channel section of the Glenelg River south of Dartmoor. The swamp has not been seriously disturbed and represents an important river-formed wetland area.

]

Management:

No drainage of the swampland should be permitted and the depression should not be used a refuse dumping site.
