Scientific name: | Anthoxanthum odoratum L. |
Common name: | Sweet vernal-grass |
Status: | Not declared noxious in Victoria. |
Habitat: | Sweet vernal-grass is a widespread weed found in many natural settings (Muyt 2001). It tolerates almost any soil, however commonly occurs on shallow, potassium-deficient soils and sites of low to moderate fertility (Blood 2001, Muyt 2001). It occurs as a weed on waste ground, track edges and pastures (Muyt 2001). Sweet vernal-grass invades dry coastal vegetation, heathland and heathy woodland, lowland grassland and grassy woodland, dry sclerophyll forest and woodland, damp sclerophyll forest, riparian vegetation, freshwater wetland (seasonal), cool temperate rainforest and alpine and subalpine vegetation (Carr et al 1992). |
