Unclassified drainage lines - dv
The soils in the drainage line are quite variable. They can best be described as various Hydrosols using the Australian Soil Classification and the greatest management limitation is likely to be that they are usually saturated for a number of months in most years. Remnant vegetation remains in many of the drainage lines, and is also quite variable, reflecting the wide range in topography and soils. Ecological vegetation classes include damp forest in the drainage lines in the wetter and central parts of the Peninsula, gully woodland in the sandy areas, and swamp scrub or swampy riparian woodland in many other areas, particularly around Balnarring and Flinders.
Farm dams have greatly interrupted the natural drainage systems and in drier areas these may cause saline areas to develop below the dam wall.
