Cerberus - Symbol: Ce
This mapping unit includes the geologically recent to late Pleistocene windblown sands adjoining the coastline near Cerberus. The topography comprises low dunes that tend to run parallel with the coastline. All of the soils are sands and although the surface soils are generally non-calcareous, the subsoils at about 900mm to 1metre depth are always alkaline and frequently calcareous. The surface soils are generally grey to dark brownish grey and colour variations are largely due to organic matter differences. The soils can best be described as sandy Tenosols using the Australian Soil Classification.
All occurrences of this mapping unit are within the Naval Base, and most is under native vegetation classified as a coastal dune scrub mosaic.
