Land Modified by Mining

This mapping unit recognises soils affected by mining activities to the extent where the characteristics of the soil type are changed. The changes in this case do not exclude the land from agricultural use, or from easy reclamation for this purpose. The original soil type can still be identified in most cases. The unit covers the smaller isolated diggings, areas of cyanided mine residue, or slime and soils disturbed by old mine works.

The larger and more distinct of these areas have been delineated on the soil map. Elsewhere, this feature is indicated merely be the inscription ‘M’.
