Garfield sandy clay loam

Symbol: Ga

Geology - Devonian granodiorite

Landform - Rolling low hills

Soils

These soil occur on the lower foothills and are underlain by decomposing granite rock. Most of the soils are deeper than 1.8 m but there are some rocky outcrops. The surface soils are generally brownish grey sandy clay loams (often gritty) with bleached subsurfaces occurring at about 100 to 200 mm. Slight amounts of small 'buckshot' (iron concretions) generally occur just above a mottled yellow-brown and grey or pale grey light clay (occasionally medium clay) subsoil which occurs from about 400 to 600 mm. Medium to heavy clays, usually gritty, occur from about 800 mm and generally continue to at least 1.8 m.
