High Plains

Map symbol: HP

The high plains landscape unit occupies a relatively small total area of rising ground along the southern boundary of the original survey area in the vicinity of Burnt Creek and Dock Lake. The ground surface is undulating in some areas and typically slopes down towards the flood plain landscape unit. Characteristic soil types are Drung sandy clay loam, Horsham clay, Murtoa clay and Type E. Bungalally clay and Murtoa clay occupy the lower positions as they do in other landscapes. Original vegetation may have included grasslands as well as Grey Box and the Box-Buloke and Yellow Gum Associations.
