Light brown (7.5YR6/4); sandy clay loam; coarse weak polyhedral structure; rough ped-fabric; very highly calcareous; firm consistence when moderately dry; common medium faint red mottles; common coarse calcareous soft segregations, few fine manganiferous flecks and very few medium argillaceous tubules; pH 9.5; diffuse and smooth boundary to:

2C

145–160+

Light brown (7.5YR6/4); clay loam, coarse sandy; massive (structureless); earthy ped-fabric; moderate consistence when moderately moist; very highly calcareous; many very coarse faint red and very pale brown mottles; few fine manganiferous flecks and few medium calcareous soft segregations; pH 9.5.
Management considerations
  • Moderate to high susceptibility to wind erosion
  • Alkaline subsoils with calcareous soft segregations, manganese flecks and argillaceous (clayey) tubules
  • Minor subsoil constraint >75 cm as mottling indicates slightly imperfect drainage
  • Possible plough pan (510 cm)
  • Moderately structured surface with very weak resistance to breaking down makes it vulnerable to wind erosion without stubble and trash retention
  • Poorer structure and increased dispersibility of subsoil
