A2

15–40

B21

40–70

Yellowish brown (10YR5/8) with yellowish red (5YR5/8) mottles; medium clay (sandy); moderate fine and medium angular blocky structure; smooth ped-fabric; firm consistence (dry); very few ferruginous concretions; pH 5.5; clear boundary to:

B22

70–100

Light yellowish brown (10YR6/4) with red (2.5YR4/6) and strong brown (7.5YR5/8) mottles; sandy medium clay; moderate fine and medium angular blocky structure; smooth ped-fabric; firm (dry); few ferruginous concretions; pH 6.1.
Management considerations
  • Strong texture contrast soil, generally slightly acidic. Alkaline subsurface soil
  • Relatively leached subsurface soil, less nutrients, but drainage not restrictive until subsoil (texture and mottling)
  • Increase in sodium and magnesium at depth and decreases calcium; more likely to be dispersive
  • Generally low to moderate nutrient availability.
  • Landscape element; hillslope. Position will often determine depth to variable depth weathered parent material
