Site Description | An enclosed natural depression on the lava plains holds an intermittent lake approximately 300 m wide. The lake is fed from a shallow drainage channel from the slopes of Mount Derrimut. |
Significance | Local. The site is the largest lava depression lake in the western suburbs of Melbourne and a good example of the topographic complexity of the lava plains surface. The mud of the lake floor may be of interest for sediment analysis to determine the depositional history of the lake basin. |
Management | Class 2. Botanical research s necessary to determine the appropriate vegetation management strategies for the lake environment. |
