Site Description

The eastern end of the narrow interfluve north of Evans Creek is capped by a small outlier of Newer Volcanics. The capping is about 20 m thick and rests and steeply dipping Silurian sediments and although the contact is masked by colluvium, the change in rock type is evident from the outcrops and soil types seen.
There is a small scarp at the eastern end of the basalt outlier facing Jacksons Creek. Graptolite fossils have been collected from the Silurian sediments outcropping in Evans Creek below the basalt outlier.

Significance

Regional. The site is a clear example of the processes and forms of valley development of Jacksons creek where it has dissected the volcanic plain north of Sunbury.

Management

Class 2. Residential subdivision should not be permitted above the 280 m contour in the site. Outcrops of Silurian sediment on the lower slopes of Evans Creek should not be covered by landfill nor should the channel be artificially lined or stabilized.
