Right bank of Merri Creek 50 m east of McBryde Road and 200 m west of Lockton Avenue.
Access: | Merri Path. |
Ownership & Municipality: | Public Land, City of Broadmeadows, Private Land. |
Site Description: | The site is a basalt escarpment rising 5 m above the narrow floodplain of the Merri Creek. The opposite bank is a convex slip-off slope with a narrow basal terrace. The basalt outcrop illustrates jointing and vesicles of varying size and orientation. |
Significance Rating: | Local. |
The site is an example of the typical form of an incised valley with a basalt escarpment on the outer bend. This relatively open meander plan form is typical of the meander geometry of the Merri Creek.
Site Sensitivity: | Class 3. |
The site is not threatened by present land use. The escarpment would not be damaged by recreational activities. As land fill and dumping has degraded many similar sites in the Metropolitan area, this site should be retained as an example of the original valley topography along the Merri Creek in the northern regions of Melbourne.
