Site 20 Coburg Lake - Alluvial Terrace

Right bank of Merri Creek immediately west and south of the first footbridge south of Carr Street.
Access:Carr Street.
Ownership & Municipality:Public Land, City of Coburg, Lake Reserve.
Site Description:The site is an alluvial terrace 4 m above the level of the Merri Creek channel. The exposed and eroding edge of the terrace shows a higher level bedrock channel overlain by boulders and rounded stream-worn cobbles of basalt. These are enclosed by an alluvial silty deposit.
Significance Rating:Local.
The site is a clear and safely accessible example of the internal structure of river terraces by the Merri Creek..
Site Sensitivity:Class 2.
The site is gradually eroding but this is the reason for the clear exposure of the terrace materials. The site should be left exposed as a geological site and not landscaped.
