Geology: | An inlier of Upper Ordovician shale and sandstone outcrops in the valley of Stony Creek. The fossiliferous dark shales are well exposed in the abandoned Baynes Quarry where they dip easterly at 35°. | |
Significance: | Regional. This is the best exposure of dark shales in the Mornington Peninsula section of the Westernport Bay catchment. | |
Management: | Class 1. The quarry should not be filled in or be used as a rubbish tip. | |
