Morrisons - Isolated Spur

Access:

Ballan to Meredith Road.

Ownership:

Private land.

Site Description:

A symmetrical hill on the floodplain of the Moorabool River at the junction of Tea Tree Creek, is a remnant of a spur that projected from the north separating the valleys of the two streams. The Tea Tree Creek flowed to the south of the spur end, but breaching of a narrow part of the spur shortened the stream course and isolated the southern end of the spur as a small hill of circumdenudation. The former course of Tea Tree Creek is now a swampy depression.

Significance:

Regional. The site is a very clear example of this process of stream valley modification.

Management:

Class 2. The hill should be left intact and not be built on or subject to mining or quarrying. The treeless nature makes the feature very distinctive and emphasises the topography. Tree planting on the slopes would detract from this aspect of the site.
