Location:Cleever Hill - 571339. Shire of Ballan. One kilometre southeast of Ballan.

Access:

Old Melbourne Road, Gatehouse 24 Road.

Ownership:

Private land.

Site Description:

Mount Gorong is a prominent flat-topped eruption point with distinctive terraces or benches on all sides. These result from the erosion of multiple lava flows of even thickness that rest on irregular lava flows extending north-easterly from the base of the mountain.

Significance:

Local. This is a clear example of an eruption point producing multiple lava flows of similar composition and thickness.

Management:

Class 2. The upper slopes of Mount Gorong should be maintained free from building or road construction.
