Location: | Flinders – 296441 to 304445. The site extends from the mouth of Stony Creek to Honeysuckle Point. | Beach terrace of Agropyron showing at least 3 stages of cut and fill, Site 63. |
Access: | From the Shoreham foreshore camping reserve.
Ownership: | Crown Land.
Geology/Geomorphology: | The embayment is backed by cliffs and bluffs cut in Older Volcanics lava flows and tuffs. Some residual blocks form cliff stacks on the shore platform. Near Honeysuckle Point there is a sandy beach terrace 75 metres wide stabilised by Agropyron junceum. The beach sands here contain layers of heavy minerals including concentrations of titanomagnetite with rare sapphires and zircons.
Significance: | Regional. The site shows a variety of steep coastal forms and the influence of lithology on the form of the cliff stacks is readily apparent. The wide Agropyron junceum terrace is an unusual form of backshore dune.
Management: | Class 2. Continuation of the present management policy (as a camping reserve) is consistent with maintaining the significant features of the site. |
