208. Clump Lagoon

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Geomorphology:

Clump Lagoon is a complex wetland consisting of two lakes and adjacent areas of swamp terrain occupying a depression in the Cranbourne Sand terrain. The smaller lake appears to have been isolated by a process of segmentation.

Significance:

Regional. This is one of the least disturbed of the lakes on the Cranbourne Sand terrain on French Island and may provide opportunity for palynological studies of lake floor sediments.

Management:

Class 1. No disturbance to the catchment eg - clearing or drainage should be permitted, and withdrawal of water from the lakes should be prohibited. Domestic grazing animals should be excluded.
