Habitat: | Most commonly found in coastal environments, from the high water flotsam line into the dunes (Blood 2001; Heylinger 2002). This distribution is thought to be largely dictated by the species seeds being dispersed by ocean currents and while not reported in the literature away from coastal habitats, populations have been identified in inland Victoria (Australian National Herbarium 2007; EIS 2006). This could be possible as while they are not as vigorous as other specimens plants have been reported by Heylinger (2002) to have established behind the fore dunes amongst the existing vegetation and Blood (2001) has reported that seeds may be dispersed accidentally by people. Therefore if a plant were to establish away from the coast it could be dispersed along riparian systems. |
