Status:

Native to eastern Australian States.

Plant Description:

Shrub from 0.5-1.5 m high. Sprawling to erect with rusty coloured stems. Leaves narrow to broad-
ovate, 1.5-5 cm long and 6-30 mm wide, often with recurved (curved back) margins. Upper leaf surface smooth to slightly rough and sparsely to densely hairy, lower surface covered in matted hairs.

Flowers at the ends of branches and hanging down on 2-4 mm stalks. Flower a 4-toothed corolla tube 20-35 mm long and either green or red and green. Fruit 6-9 mm long.

Habitat:

Widespread species from mountain forests to coastal environments.

Comments:

A very variable species across its range in leaf and flower size and leaf shape and plant habit. Five natural varieties are currently recognised but many others have been developed by the nursery industry.
