Soils

Most of the soils have a dark grey loamy sand surface soil. A pronounced bleached zone generally occurs near 30 cm. At about 90 cm a "coffee rock" layer is generally encountered. This layer comprises black, dark brown and yellowish brown weakly cemented sands. Below the "coffee rock", light yellowish brown or brownish yellow sands generally occur. No calcium carbonate or shelly material has been found within the auger depth of 1.5 m. These soils are classified as Aeric Podosols using the Australian Soil Classification.
