A2240 – 75 cmVery pale brown (10YR7/3), conspicuously bleached with few, fine, faint, brownish yellow (10YR6/6) mottles; clay loam; weak coarse polyhedral structure; weak consistence dry; contains very few, soft fine, ferro-manganiferous (or charcoal?) segregations; gradual and smooth transition to:
Subsoil
B175 – 110 cmVery pale brown (10YR7/4) with distinct, greyish brownish yellow (10YR6/6) mottles common; light clay; weak very coarse polyhedral structure; firm consistence moist; contains very few, soft and fine ferro-manganiferous (or charcoal) segregations; clear and wavy transition to:
B2 110 – 180 cmLight grey (10YR6/1), with many, coarse, prominent, yellowish brown (10YR5/4) mottles, medium clay; strong very coarse prismatic, parting to strong medium prismatic structure; very firm consistence moist.


Key Profile Features:
  • Lack of strong texture contrast between surface (A) horizons and subsoil (B) horizons.
  • Conspicuously bleached subsurface (A2) horizons.
Notes:
  • Pit excavated to 2 metres depth - no impeding layers evident. This profile is paler in colour than is typical for the Silver Creek loam soil type. It better fits into the Boolarra loam soil type in terms of colour but Silver Creek loam as far as texture is concerned. No samples were taken for analysis.
