The publication: The Monolith Collection 1962-1988 - Agriculture Research Technical Report, November 2020 was prepared by Agriculture Victoria, Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.
This publication provides a review of the method for preparing a “Soil Monolith”, which is a thin slice of a soil profile. A range of Monoliths (33 were originally described) were created from different environments around Victoria from the early 1960’s to the mid 1980’s. This document describes their production and the soil types they represent. Over time the method of classifying soils has changed from the start of the process to the present day, so each Monolith may have a range of soil classification names.
