The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (external link) was established in 1997 by the Victorian Government to ensure the protection and sustainable development of land, vegetation and water resources within a boundary stretching from Geelong to Ballarat and along the coast to Peterborough. About 330,000 people live in the catchment which has a total area of 13,340 sq km.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (external link) is the strategic body that coordinates natural resource management in North Central Victoria. The region covers an area of around three million hectares (13 per cent of the State), with a population of over 230,000 people.
