Site Description | The site is an exposure of coarse Bullengarook Gravels on the edge of the dissected Gisborne Highlands. The gravels are of reef quartz, sandstone and quartzite, and are set in a silica and iron-cemented sandy matrix, are rounded, and include clasts 20 cm long. | |
Significance | Local. The gravels are important in displaying the pre-basaltic geology of the Gisborne Highlands area. The gravel outcrop is extensive and may be viewed at a number of localities. | |
Management | Class 3. The site is robust. As long as the outcrops are retained, the site could be put to a variety of uses. | |
