Location: | 758955. 5 kilometres north-east of Bindi. | Old Hut Limestone Member of Cowombat Siltstone, in Old Hut Creek near Bindi. |
Abstract: | Exposure of Old Hut Creek Limestone Member of Cowombat Siltstone.
Access: | Old Hut Creek Track.
Ownership: | Crown land.
Geology: | A lens of recrystallised and well foliated grey-white limestone of the Old Hut Limestone Member of the Cowombat Siltsone, is exposed in a cliff up to five metres in height, in the valley of Old Hut Creek. The limestone is interbedded with siltstones which are poorly exposed, and also with massive conglomerate lenses which are well exposed upstream of the track crossing Old Hut Creek.
Significance: | Regional. One of the four major limestone lenses of the Cowombat Siltstone which has been given member status.
Management: | The limestone deposits are small and consequently would be removed by large-scale extractive operations. Such land use would degrade the quality of the site.
