20.1 Wye River - Rampart on Shore Platform

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Shore platform and ramparts at Wye River

Great Ocean Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology/Geomorphology:

This site illustrates a shore platform developed in massive arkose beds. The structure is similar to that illustrated in
Site 19.11 with the addition of lower, smaller ramparts landward of the outer edge.

Significance:

Regional. The site very clearly demonstrates a process of shore platform development that is common on the eastern Otways Coast.
