Reddish yellow (7.5YR6/8) with many medium distinct yellowish red (5YR4/6) mottles;
medium heavy clay; massive (structureless); strong moderately moist consistence; few fine to medium manganiferous nodules; pH 8.5.

Management Considerations

  • Strong texture contrast profile, highly sodic subsoil.
  • Subsurface horizon is leached (bleached). Fewer nutrients available.
  • Highly acidic surface and subsurface soil and alkaline subsoil.
  • Note high fine sand content throughout.
  • Less clay with deeper subsoil (undetected by hand texture) and higher proportion of magnesium to calcium at depth.
  • Subsoil is very highly dispersive. Limited (preferably no) exposure required to remain stable. Slightly higher salinity with depth.
  • Surface soil is only slightly dispersive.
  • Landscape position, gentle crest. Water shedding.
