B3

95–115

Yellowish brown (10YR5/4);
medium clay; moderate fine prismatic, parting to moderate fine and very fine subangular blocky structure; rough ped-fabric; strong moderately moist consistence; very few organic root linings, common fine manganiferous nodules; few faint slickensides; few medium to coarse and few fine to very fine roots; pH 8.8.

Management Considerations:

  • Strong texture contrast profile, highly sodic subsoil
  • Subsurface horizon is leached (bleached) with restrictive interface with subsoil (Note less clay than above and below). Fewer nutrients available
  • Slightly acidic surface and subsurface soil, neutral to alkaline upper subsoil and alkaline deeper subsoil
  • Clay percentage decreasing at depth. Note high silt content and higher proportion of magnesium to calcium
  • Deep subsoil is very highly dispersive. Limited (preferably no) exposure required to remain stable. Slightly saline with depth.
  • Surface soil is slightly to moderately dispersive
  • Landscape position (ie. terrace). Variable site drainage
