B24

110–180+

Pale olive (2.5Y5/2) with few very coarse prominent (5YR4/6) mottles; medium heavy clay; strong very coarse lenticular, parting to moderate coarse and medium angular blocky structure; smooth ped-fabric; few fine manganiferous nodules with very few medium calcareous nodules; many prominent slickenside cutans; pH 9.0.
Management considerations
  • Cracking clay profile
  • Discontinuous bleached subsurface horizon provides extra depth to top of subsoil but compaction prone
  • Alkaline subsoil; upper subsoil non-sodic, sodic at depth. Sets(consistence) very hard when exposed and dried
  • Rooting depth dependent on major cracks for drainage and air (gaseous) movement
  • Strong structure in upper subsoil
  • Landscape position, drainage accumulation area
