Description

A11

0–30

Brown (10YR4/3); sand (organic); massive (structureless); very weak consistence when dry; pH 5.8.

Ap

30–45

Uncemented discontinuous nodular ferricrete and manganiferous pan; brown (7.5YR4/3); sand; massive (structureless); very weak consistence when dry; abundant ferromanganiferous nodules; pH 6.1.

B21

45–150+

Dusky red (2.5YR4/4); light medium clay; strong medium polyhedral, parting to strong fine subangular blocky structure; pH 6.7.
Management considerations
  • Strong texture contrast between surface (top)soil and subsoil
  • Sandy, acidic and hydrophobic surface soil, susceptible to sheet and rill erosion
  • Ferric (ironstone) pan, restrictive drainage, more lateral movement
  • Slightly acidic to neutral subsoil
  • Red subsoil indicates reasonable site drainage (movement of water and gas) given texture contrast nature of profile
  • Landform element is a hillslope, moderately well to well drained site drainage
