Summary of movements by dusky flathead up to September 2007

Latest data suggest that dusky flathead have more localised movements than black bream in the Gippsland Lakes.

We have now tagged 31 fish – 10 at Fraser Island, 9 at the entrance to the Tambo River, 8 in McLennan Straits, and 4 in the Mitchell River.

Tagged and released at Tambo River entrance on 18 December 2006
Weight: 350 g, Length: 380 mm
Remained around entrance of Tambo River until end January 2007. Then swam from Tambo River entrance to Metung in 2 hours. Detected at Metung until 9 May, after which it moved to Tambo River entrance by 14 May.
Moved up Tambo River to Johnsonville then back to entrance.
Detected around entrance until 21 May.
Moved back to Metung via Jones Bay by 9 June.
