Access: | Boat access at high tide from Bennison Channel. |
Significant Features: | Bennison Island is a granite island near the northern coast of Wilsons Promontory. There is a platform exposed at high tide and excellent examples of sub-surface granite weathering features recently exposed by erosion of overburden. They are classed as various types of tafoni and includes small overhangs, hollows and pits (alveoles). On the southern side of the island is a small beach perched at the back of the platform. |
There are accessible sandy tidal flats with pool and channel drainage patterns between Bennison Island and Barrys Point. | |
Significance Level: | Regional. Bennison Island has different types of coastline and a number of weathering features unusual on granitic coasts. It has the only beach on any of the granite islands in Corner Inlet. |
