Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:314595. Four kilometres east of Thorpdale South.

Access:

Thorpdale South – Narracan East road.

Ownership:

Private Land.

Geology/Geomorphology:

An abandoned bauxite quarry is one of a number of occurrences of this mineral in the Mirboo North area. The deposits are associated with weathering of the Older Volcanics.

Significance:

Regional. The precise development of the bauxite mineralisation is not clear and as there are now no operating quarries in the district, this locality represents one site where further study of the process may be undertaken.

Management:

The value of the site would be enhanced by further quarrying or if clearing of the old face was undertaken. However, sufficient of the mineralised material should be retained as an example of the deposit.
