Location: | 397523. Four kilometres east of Boolarra along Sassafras Creek.
Access: | Halls Road off Midland Highway.
Ownership: | Private Land.
Geology/Geomorphology: | Very restricted outcrop of sandstone, shale, and breccia in the Sassafras Creek area has, on the basis of graptolite fossils, been defined as a faulted inlier of Lower Ordovician sediments.
Significance: | Regional. This is the only exposure of Ordovician sediments in the main body of the Strzelecki Group.
Management: | The outcrop is very poor and road cuttings could provide new exposures of the Ordivician. However, the construction of even small farm dams in the creek channel would obscure the available outcrop.
