Location: | 920084 to 930084. Eastern shoreline of Lake Bunga and coastline eastward towards Red Bluff.
Abstract: | Abandoned marine cliff (bluff).
Access: | Lake Bunga Road.
Ownership: | Crown land.
Geology: | The Tertiary sediments that form the cliff at Red Blugg (GL-1) also outcrop along the coastline to the west and on the eastern shoreline of Lake Bunga. As they are now isolated from marine cliffing processes by a broad sand beach and one or more vegetated fore-dune ridges, the former cliffed profile cut in these sediments has become partly covered by accumulation of weathered materials and vegetation growth and is best described as a bluff.
Significance: | Regional. When compared with Red Bluff, this site displays clearly the processes by which the former sea cliff around the margin of the Gippsland Lakes embayment has been converted to a bluff.
Management: | Access to the site could be improved by footpath construction but these must be designed so as to avoid causing accelerated mass wasting of the bluff. |
