Location: | 396896. Eight kilometres west of Cabanandra.
Abstract: | Scarp and eroded dislope on Upper Palaeozoic sediments.
Access: | Bowen track via Collings Track from Deddick River Road.
Ownership: | Crown Land.
Geology/Geomorphology: | This are is designated as Ordovician sediments on the 1:250,00 Mallacoota Geological Survey Map. However, analysis of aerial photographs indicates a physiography uncharacteristic of Ordovician sediments in Eastern Victoria. A south facing scarp, and north facing slopes, with "flat iron" forms, together with extensive outcrop suggest that this area may comprise of faulted outlier of younger Palaeozoic rocks. The physiography is similar to that developed in Upper Devonian/Lower Carboniferous formations at Mount Wakefiled, The Three Sisters and the Mount Howitt area.
Significance: | Unknown. More detailed investigations are necessary to establish the significance of this site.
Management: | Because of the area covered by the site the value of the geological/geomorphological features is unlikely to be seriously reduced by localised disturbance, e.g. road works, extractive industries. It should be stressed however, the future investigations of this area may reveal specific sites of importance (e.g. fossil sites) which may require the formulation and enforcement of detailed management prescriptions. |
