Location: | 350170. Two kilometres west of Marlo. | Alluvial terrace (A) - Lower Brodribb River. |
Abstract: | Alluvial terrace.
Access: | Marlo Road. | |
Ownership: | Private land.
Geomorphology: | Downstream from the Marlo Road Bridge, a small alluvial terrace occurs on the southern side of the Brodribb River. The terrace is approximately two metres above the level of the present floodplain and is a unique feature on the Snowy River - Brodribb River delta. The origin of this feature is unclear. It may have resulted from a higher sea level in the Holocene, although its limited extent and the absence of similar terraces on the delta suggest that recent and localised tectonic movements may provide a more satisfactory explanation.
Significance: | Regional. This is a unique feature of the Snowy River delta and further research is needed to determine its origin.
Management: | The terrace encompasses a small are and detailed mapping and coring is necessary to determine its form and composition. This research activity would be precluded by any land use which covered or otherwise obscured the surface of the terrace. |
