Location: | 058935. 14 kilometres north of Gelantipy. | Mount Seldom Seen. Outcrop of the Mount Seldom Seen beds. |
Abstract: | Exposures of Upper Silurian - Lower Devonian Seldom Seen Beds.
Access: | Seldom Seen Road.
Ownership: | Crownland.
Geology: | This formation is restricted to the area around Mt Seldom Seen. It lies non-conformably on the Nunniong Granodiorite and is unconformably overlain by the Snowy River Volcanics. The formation consists of a sequence of conglomerate and sandstone with an interbedded rhyolite flow. Two units have been recognised in this formation which dip uniformly to the north-east between 15 degrees and 40 degrees. The lower unit is predominantly a sandstone, while the upper consists predominantly of quartzite conglomerate. The upper unit is well exposed on the summit of Mt Seldom Seen and in cliffs on the eastern side.
Significance: | Regional. These beds occur only in the Mt Seldom Seen area.
Management: | Land use should be compatible with the maintenance of the exposures on the western slopes of Mt Seldom Seen.
