Location:

994325. 10 kilometres north of Nowa Nowa.

Abstract:

Massive hematite deposit.

Access:

Old Nowa Nowa - Buchan Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology:

A small quarry near the Seven Mile Road intersection exposes a deposit of massive hematite. The hematite represents a replacement product of magnetite occurring above the water table. The effect of shearing stresses resulting from the faulting of this deposit is apparent as numerous shears of recrystallised iron oxide and slickensides occur in many of the outcropping blocks of hematite.

Significance:

Local. Easily accessible hematite deposit which is representative of the iron mineralization occurring in the Nowa Nowa area.

Management:

The deposit is relatively small and exploitation is unlikely. Small scale extraction would increase the exposures and enhance the significance.
