Abstract: | Freshwater lakes in dune swales.
Access: | Old Station Road from Mitchell Road.
Ownership: | Crown land.
Geology/Geomorphology: | Three small freshwater lakes with swampy margins lie on the coastal terrace surface north of Ewing Marsh. The lakes occur in an area of hummocky, sandy terrain, but there is no regular pattern of ridges and swales that clearly delineates a particular type of dune morphology. The basins containing the lakes are probably deflation hollows with the floor of the lakes formed either by an impermeable humate horizon in the dunes or else by the Tertiary sediments that underlie the sands.
Significance: | Local. The topography and the lakes are similar to that of the Marlo Plains east of the Snowy River.
Management: | Forestry or land clearing on the catchments of the lakes should be prohibited as it would cause rapid changes in sedimentology and hydrology of the lakes.
