Location:

759130. 200 metres south of the Princes Highway on the Metung Road.

Abstract:

Type locality - Tambo River Formation.

Access:

Swan Reach - Metung Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology:

This formation is composed of limonitic or glauconitic marls which conformably overlie the Bairnsdale Limestone. A road cutting 200 metres south of the Princes Highway exposes approximately 10 metres of the ferruginous glauconitic marl.

Significance:
Regional. This is one of the few exposures of the Tambo River Formation.

Management:

Weathering and slumping on the road cutting obscures the section and occasional roadworks would allow better viewing of the exposure.
