Abstract: | Exposures of red granite overlain by Jemmys Point Formation.
Access: | Quarry Road. | |
Ownership: | Crown land.
Geology: | Fine to medium grained red granite is exposed in a quarry in the Mississippi Creek. In the vicinity of the quarry, interbedded gravels and sands overlie the granite while further to the south in the low bluffs of Mississippi Creek exposures of fossiliferous yellow and brown sandstone of the Jemmys Point Formation occur. On the eastern side of Mississippi Creek, downstream from the quarry, polyzoan with Spondylus, Clypeaster and Ostrea is poorly exposed.
Significance: | Local. Representative exposures of the granite, sands and gravels and the Jemmys Point Formation are displayed at this site.
Management: | Maintenance of clear faces in the granite and sand and gravel quarries would enhance the value of the site. |
