Location:

890155. 20 kilometres north-west of Maffra.

Abstract:

River gorge cut into Carboniferous siltstone and sandstone.

Access:

Boundary Road.

Ownership:

Crown land.

Geology/Geomorphology:

The Avon River at this locality has excavated a gorge in Lower Carboniferous siltstones and sandstones. The Channels area is marked by straight river valley sections until angular rather than sweeping meander bends and appear to be structurally controlled.

Significance:

Local. An accessible site which displays the gorge-like form characteristic of all the major south flowing rivers in East Gippsland.

Management:

The gorge form could be partially obscured by major reservoir construction.
