8.6 Basalt Dyke

Geological heritage sites, including sites of geomorphological interest and volcanic heritage sites, are under regular revision by the Geological Society of Australia, especially in the assessment of significance and values. Reference should be made to the most recent reports. Location:8-170320. Four kilometres west of Gellibrand.

Access:

Gelliibrand-Carlisle River Road.

Ownership:

Private land and some Crown land.

Geology:

A low ridge that is crossed by the road, is a small plug of Older Volcanics basalt.

Significance:

Regional. This is one of the few examples of Older Volcanic materials in the Otway Shire.
