This unit has been identified as land covered by spoil from the early mining works to the extent where it is useless for agriculture. The original soil has been buried or modified beyond recognition. The mine spoil covers a wide range of materials, varying from coarse gravel and even stones to sands and clay. It includes both the more extensive diggings and the huge mound of material brought up from the bigger mines. It is a major feature of 'Craig’s Paddock'.
