Dookie Soil Pit Sites

These soil pits were described and sampled in 1994 by the soil survey team lead by Mark Imhof (Agriculture Victoria) to support the development of the publication: 'Soil Management Units in the Dookie Land Management Area'. This limited distribution report was compiled in 1995 by Suzanne Briggs from Agriculture Victoria as part of a joint project with the Murray Darling Basin Commission. The broad objective of the study was to provide soil information to the Dookie Land Management Group that would assist them in the management of land. Initially, soil type boundaries were marked onto 1:25 000 scale aerial photographs by landholders. Soils with similar geomorphology, characteristics and behaviour were grouped into 'Soil Management Units'. Soil pits were described as representative soil profiles for each of these Land Management Units.
