Greyish brown (2.5Y5/3); light clay; massive (structureless); earthy ped fabric; firm consistence when moderately moist; very few fine manganiferous and calcareous flecks; highly calcareous; pH 9.5.
Management considerations
  • Moderate susceptibility to wind erosion where vegetation coverage is inadequate
  • Clay subsoils tend to be subplastic
  • Very alkaline throughout profile therefore chemical limitation (eg. chemical toxicity for some elements)
  • Subsoil constrained includes poor drainage (yellow mottling)
  • Rooting depth to 55 cm (observed) abrupt end at this depth. Possibly due to waterlogging, chemical imbalance.
  • Moderate susceptibility to soil structure decline in upper subsoil due to slaking and some dispersion
